Zest has launched an AI concierge that suggests restaurants, polls group preferences, and books reservations via text.
Zest has rolled out a new AI‑powered concierge that can locate restaurants and complete reservations through a simple text conversation. The agent asks each participant in a group chat to share their preferences, aggregates the inputs, proposes a shortlist, runs a quick vote and, once a choice is confirmed, books the table on the users’ behalf.
The feature builds on Zest’s recently launched discovery app, which differentiates itself from review‑centric platforms by analysing users’ actual credit‑card spend to surface places they truly frequent. The startup secured $1.8 million in pre‑seed funding from Alexis Ohanian’s 776 and Steve Jang’s Kindred Ventures to develop that data‑driven recommendation engine.
By moving from static lists to an interactive, text‑based booking flow, Zest aims to cut the friction that often stalls group dining plans. The service demonstrates how AI can translate raw transaction signals into actionable, personalized suggestions, and it signals a broader shift toward conversational commerce in the hospitality sector. For consumers, the convenience of a single chat thread handling taste‑matching, polling and reservation could make spontaneous outings more common. For the industry, the model raises questions about data privacy, the competitive edge of spend‑based insights and how traditional reservation platforms will respond.
Going forward, observers will watch how Zest integrates with existing booking networks, whether it expands beyond text to voice or app‑based interfaces, and how quickly users adopt the service in markets where group dining decisions are traditionally made offline. The rollout will also test the scalability of transaction‑driven AI recommendations as a core product rather than a supplementary feature.
