Google DeepMind has unveiled WeatherNext 3, its latest AI‑driven weather model that refreshes forecasts every hour using real‑time satellite imagery. Unlike the majority of AI weather tools that depend on the European Centre for Medium‑Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) dataset—a source that takes roughly five hours to assemble and is only updated six‑hourly—WeatherNext 3 delivers turbine‑height wind speeds, solar irradiance at farm level, precise precipitation and other clean‑energy variables on an hourly cadence.
The upgrade matters most to power‑market participants.
