AWS is integrating AI agents across its platform and internal workflows, positioning the technology as a key growth driver for the cloud provider and its customers.
AWS is moving decisively into “agentic” artificial intelligence, a shift that could reshape both its own service portfolio and the way its customers build automated workflows. The company announced the creation of a dedicated AI‑agents group, with CEO Matt Garman describing the technology as “the next multibillion business for AWS.” The move signals a strategic bet that autonomous software agents will become a core revenue stream, complementing the broader generative‑AI push that has dominated the cloud market this year.
The rollout will be anchored by an AI‑agent marketplace slated for unveiling at the AWS New York Summit on July 15. The marketplace will let developers discover, purchase, and integrate pre‑built agents, and Anthropic has already committed to offering its models through the platform. Internally, AWS is bolstering the ecosystem with tools such as CloudWatch‑plus‑Bedrock AgentCore, which provides end‑to‑end visibility into an agent’s actions from request to response. The Builder Center will serve as a community hub where partners can share solutions and influence product direction.
Customer adoption is already emerging. Mary Kay, for example, has used Amazon Bedrock to create a self‑triaging operations workflow that automatically detects and corrects infrastructure drift in its Terraform state, illustrating how agents can automate routine IT tasks and reduce manual intervention.
The significance lies in the potential scale: if agents can reliably handle complex, multi‑step processes, enterprises could offload large swaths of operational work to AI, driving cost savings and faster response times. For AWS, a thriving agent marketplace could open a new multibillion‑dollar revenue channel and deepen lock‑in with developers who build on its cloud stack.
Watch for the marketplace launch details at the summit, early partner listings beyond Anthropic, and any pricing or usage‑metric disclosures that will indicate how quickly the agent economy gains traction. Subsequent performance data from early adopters like Mary Kay will also reveal how quickly the technology moves from pilot to production at scale.
